Covid-19, as expected, is wreaking havoc across the league as we enter the winter months of what has been a fairly successful NFL season. With the exception of a few mishandled situations —the Patriots-Chiefs game stands out the most— the NFL has done a good job of ensuring the competitive balance of the league is maintained during a global pandemic. That being said, teams are now starting WRs at QB, Taysom Hill is a viable QB1, and the 49ers can not play any home games. Clearly, 2020 isn’t holding back in the final rounds. Let’s recap some of today’s events:
James Conner Tests Positive for Covid-19
Conner was informed of his positive test and immediately placed on the Covid-19/Reserve list. It’s a nightmare scenario for Conner, who previously battled cancer and has quickly become a league-favorite player. Here’s hoping for his quick and speedy recovery. Look for Benny Snell Jr. and Anthony McFarland Jr. to carry the load while Conner recovers.
Jonathan Taylor Placed On Covid-19/Reserve List
After his girlfriend has an out-of-town trip and was exposed to Covid-19, Jonathan Taylor has been placed on the Covid-19 List. This is especially frustrating for Taylor given he just played his best NFL game last week. Look for Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins to carry the load, with Hines an RB2.
Broncos Quarterbacks Ineligible To Play, Kendall Hinton To Start At Quarterback
No, you can’t play Hinton as a WR in fantasy. After all the Broncos QBs were deemed ineligible to play, it was confirmed that Kendall Hinton is going to be under center for the Broncos tomorrow. Please, unless you’re in a 16 team, 2 QB league… don’t start him. Then again, it’s 2020… anything is possible.
49ers Can Not Play Any Home Games
The 49ers can not practice or play in their home facility for the next three weeks. It’s a knockout blow to a team that was coming off a Super Bowl appearance yet couldn’t catch a break this season.
Ravens Place 18 on Covid List, More To Come
So far, the Baltimore Ravens have placed 18 players on the Covid-19/Reserve list this week, and that number is expected to increase. I would be shocked if this week’s Steelers-Ravens game is played on Tuesday night. Unless your commissioner allows replacements, it’s time to look for other options this week.
Matt Patricia Fired
Not Covid related, but nonetheless important. In what was, unfortunately, an overdue move, Matt Patricia has been relieved of his duties. I expect the Lions to invest heavily in D’Andre Swift now that the season is out of reach/ the head coach has been fired.
Hopefully, this wild Saturday isn’t a precursor of things to come.
