Fantasy Football 2020: Deeper Waiver Wire Targets

@angel_tejadaff

Irv Smith Jr.

Irv Smith Jr. truthers rejoice! A favorite stash among dynasty managers, Smith Jr. broke out without Kyle Rudolph I’m the lineup. He displayed the route running,  patience, and football IQ to get open against NFL coverage and he needs to be rostered in all leagues as a backup TE should your starter need to miss time for any reason. 4 catches, 63 yards, and one touchdown… not bad for the former second-round pick.

Chad Hansen

Who wants a piece of a Deshaun Watson led offense? After Will Fuller’s suspension, Hansen has emerged as the clear WR2 in the Texans’ offense. Brandin Cooks should be back this week, but that may be even better for Hansen as Cooks opens up the underneath. Get him as a depth piece.

And yes he does look like Chris Hogan.

Russell Gage

He was a hot waiver wire commodity earlier this season, but Gage has taken a big hit since his early-season success. Now though, Julio Jones is injured and the Falcons are finding themselves throwing the ball with the regularity of a team that’s always trailing. Gage’s 370 slot snaps rank 13th in the league so it’s not like he’s going to face better competition without Julio Jones drawing coverage. He’s available in more than 70% of leagues (Yahoo) so he needs to be picked up and considered a flex going forward.

Tyron Johnson

Tyron Johnson emerged Sunday to the tune of six catches for 55 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers win. He has a fantastic matchup against a vulnerable Raiders defense. While he can’t replace the size and physicality of Mike Williams, he has a clear path to playing time on one of the best offenses in the league. He’s a WR4 for now, but is worth a shot if you’re desperate for a flex.

Rashaad Higgins

Baker Mayfield is feeling dangerous again and the Browns are looking like a legit contender. If Higgins is still available in your league, he’s worth considering as a flex option this week against a pitiful Jets defense.

Make sure to scour the wire for depth. There will be more surprise Covid results that will leave owners scrambling to find replacement options. I invite you to stay ahead of the curve and fill your bench out with these players to ensure you have a safety net. Good luck this week!
